The Independent School of Jakarta has reached a proud milestone: within just five years of opening, the school is creating direct pathways for its senior pupils into British boarding schools.

This month, ISJ welcomed Kay Extance, Head of Senior School at Ipswich High School (IHS) in the UK, to campus. Kay met with ISJ parents and pupils who are exploring future study in Britain, and the visit marked the formal start of a significant new chapter for the school.

A First Cohort Bound for the UK

Several ISJ students are now preparing applications to Ipswich High School for the next academic year. This cohort will be the first to progress from ISJ directly into a senior school in the United Kingdom, a milestone that reflects how quickly ISJ has matured as an institution.

The partnership with IHS has been carefully nurtured over time. ISJ's Academic Director, Eileen Fisher, previously served as Head of the Preparatory School at Ipswich High School for ten years, and has played a central role in developing this international progression route for ISJ students.

A UK Immersion Trip in April

As part of the growing partnership, ISJ will take its Year 7 and Year 8 pupils on a 12-day UK school immersion trip to Ipswich High School in April 2026. The trip will give students a genuine taste of boarding school life before they begin their applications and transitions.

Founded in 2021 with the ambition of delivering a world-class British education in Jakarta, ISJ has moved quickly beyond its early years provision to create clear, supported progression routes for students into prestigious UK senior schools. For families with longer-term plans to return to Britain or pursue international education, ISJ now offers a considered and well-supported path forward.
