Eileen Fisher, Academic Director of ISJ, with two pupils

Academic Director

Eileen Fisher

Edinburgh-born, with 31 years in education and a career spanning three continents. Eileen joined ISJ in 2024 after leading schools in England, China, and Egypt. She holds a B.Ed in English (Hons) from the University of Chichester and is an accredited inspector for both the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) and Penta International.

At ISJ, she knows every child by name, every family by story. Her door is genuinely open to every parent, every day.

"As parents, you want your child to enjoy a joyful and fulfilled childhood. One which is full of happy memories, nature, and adventures, and one which does not end too soon."

Career

Three Continents, One Vocation

Eileen spent a decade as Head of the Preparatory School at Woolverstone Hall, part of Ipswich High School, one of England's leading co-educational independent schools. She went on to become Founding Head of Craigclowan Prep in Xi'an, China, and later led the Junior School at The British International School in Cairo.

Earlier in her career, she held senior positions at Queen's College, London, and Ipswich High School. As Chair of the Prep Heads' Committee for the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), she mentored Preparatory School Heads across the United Kingdom.

As an accredited ISI and Penta inspector, Eileen understands what the best schools in the world look like from the inside. She applies that standard at ISJ every day. Eileen's leadership sits within the governance of The Schools Trust.

Approach

How Children Learn Best

Eileen believes children learn best in environments that are safe, stimulating, and joyful. At ISJ, that translates into classrooms where children are encouraged to use their imagination, think creatively, and explore the world around them.

Academic ambition runs high, but so does breadth. Sport, outdoor learning, creative arts, and character development sit alongside rigorous academics. The goal is a child who can think for themselves, not one who has been told what to think.

Under Eileen's leadership, ISJ pupils score in the top 10% of international schools globally in independent standardised assessments. Academic standards are high because expectations are high. Read more about what makes ISJ different.

"Most importantly, children at ISJ learn how to think, not what to think."
