Teach at ISJ
The Independent School of Jakarta is a through-school British international school in the Pondok Indah district of South Jakarta, serving families with children aged 2 to 18. The school follows the English National Curriculum from EYFS through to A-Levels.
The calibre of the teaching team defines the school. Everything that matters to parents, from the quality of lessons to the pastoral care their children receive, comes down to the people in the classrooms. ISJ is part of The Schools Trust, a network of 16 international schools across 11 countries.
Teaching at ISJ
A Professional Environment
ISJ keeps class sizes low. Teachers know every pupil. The Head knows every child and every family by name. Pastoral care is a daily practice, not an administrative function.
The teaching and learning environment is structured and professional. Lesson observations, departmental reviews, professional development programmes, and a clear appraisal cycle are standard. The English National Curriculum provides the framework. Teachers are expected to deliver it to a high standard, supported by the processes and leadership that make that possible.
Staff hold recognised teaching qualifications and bring classroom experience from schools in the UK and internationally. ISJ recruits teachers who are serious about their subject, committed to the profession, and motivated by working in an environment where their contribution is visible.
"The school's strength lies in the kindness of the teachers. My children love all the staff."

Growth
A School That Is Being Built
ISJ launched its secondary programme in 2024. Staff joining now are helping to build something from an early stage. The structures, the culture, and the expectations are being shaped by the people who are here.
A new purpose-built secondary campus opens in 2028. The school is expanding deliberately, adding capacity without compromising the conditions that allow teachers to teach well. Growth is managed, not pursued for its own sake.
Every member of staff has influence at ISJ. Teachers contribute to policy, to curriculum development, and to the direction of the school in ways that would be difficult to achieve in a larger institution.
Location
Life in Jakarta
Pondok Indah is one of Jakarta's most established residential districts. Tree-lined streets, international restaurants, modern hospitals, and a strong expatriate community make it a natural base for teachers relocating from abroad.
The cost of living in Jakarta allows a quality of life that is difficult to match in London, Singapore, or Hong Kong. Private healthcare, domestic help, and regular travel across Southeast Asia are standard for expatriate teachers.
ISJ supports relocating staff with visa sponsorship, orientation, and a structured settling-in process. The school's location in the heart of the Pondok Indah expat corridor means daily life is straightforward from the start.
